An Open Roads Friendsgiving: Giving Tuesday

11/28/2017

Last night some of our staff and volunteers surprised our Youth Advisory Board with an Open Roads Friendsgiving! We shared a meal and what we were each thankful for. It's safe to say we are all thankful for you, our followers and supporters, for bringing us all together to build and earn bikes, meet new friends, and develop stronger social skills! Today is Giving Tuesday, and a perfect time to contribute to this work.

We're sure you're wondering why you should give some of your hard-earned money to Open Roads, and we are so happy to tell you why that's a good idea.
When you were growing up, did you have an adult who believed in you?
Someone who supported you in the face of adversity or when you made a mistake? Open Roads gets the chance to be a mentor  for students every day thanks to the generosity of community members just like you.

Chloe met her Open Roads mentors in 2015 during an Earn-a-Bike program at El Sol Elementary. Chloe came out of her shell and over the next two years she attended four summer repair programs for maintenance and mentorship.

This spring we ran into Chloe and reminded her she would soon be eligible to interview for one of our Youth Advisory Board positions. Timidly, she asked if she could still apply if she was recently suspended from school and attending the Alternative Learning Program. "Of course!" was our resounding reply. We are pleased to report that Chloe is starting again at her regular middle school on November 30th and is an active member of our Youth Advisory Board. This fall she started her second Earn-a-Bike program (as a peer-mentor) to replace the bike she has outgrown from her El Sol days. Chloe is just one of the 426 students we are serving in 2017!

That's who your hard-earned money supports, folks. So if you would like to contribute to our Annual Campaign, please do so securely below. We are hoping to raise $9,000. We can only do that with your support!
