Community Outreach Volunteer
Every year Open Roads Bike Program is invited to community, corporate, and neighborhood events to engage with potential program families, students, volunteers, and partners. Participating in these events is vital to our success and marketing efforts. Community Outreach volunteers will be responsible for attending at least four of these events which will last approximately two to four hours. During these events you will be encouraged to provide and share information on Open Roads and its programs. You may be asked to solicit and accept donations and recruit new volunteers and students for programs. |
Fix Social Assistant
Open Roads Bike Program hosts weekly Fix programs where students ages 18 and under can drop-in for free to learn bike mechanic skills and repair their bicycle. Fix Social Assistants will lead the check-in process by accepting and checking filled-out waivers and will manage the flow of participants. They will host social activities while the participants wait for their turn with a mechanic. The volunteer will help with coordinating the pizza and snacks at the end of each program. |
Fix Mechanic Assistant
Open Roads Bike Program hosts weekly Fix programs where youth 18 and under can drop-in free of charge and receive guidance on repairing their bicycles and learn fundamental bike mechanic skills. Fix Mechanic Assistants will coach and assist youth one-on-one to meet their bike repair needs. |
Earn-a-Bike Assistant
Open Roads Bike Program hosts several seasonal, six-week Earn-a-Bike programs where students ages 10-15 meet once per week for two hours to gain both social and bike mechanic skills as they gradually learn to build up a bicycle. The Earn-a-Bike Assistant will meet at the weekly class and provide assistance where needed. Duties include working one-on-one with students to help them with their bike repairs and guiding them as they develop and advance their social skills. Most Earn-a-Bike programs occur on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm at our workshop in Kalamazoo (1523 Riverview Dr.). |
